Bengaluru: 65-yr-old home alone woman found murdered
Bengaluru: A 65-year-old home-alone woman was found strangulated to death at her residence in BEML Layout third stage in Rajarajeshwari Nagar early Wednesday. The police said the deceased has been identified as Lakshmi Rajam and was residing alone, while her son Kiran, a software engineer, was residing with his family members in Koramangala.
A senior police officer, said, “It is suspected that the incident might have taken place between 6 and 7 am. There was no forceful entry into the house, which indicates that someone known to the victim could have committed the crime. The accused might have come to the house late evening and stayed back to commit the murder. We are analyzing all the CCTVs located nearby to check if someone had come to her house. We are also questioning the housemaid and the milk vendour who comes early to the house, the police added.
“The house was not ransacked except for a gold chain and a pair of bangles worn by Rajam that has gone missing. The incident came to light when a neighbour, identified as Nagaraj, found the door of the house open on Wednesday morning. When he went and checked, he found the woman lying motionless in the kitchen. He informed other neighbours and subsequently the police was alerted. The cops inspected the spot of crime and found that Ms. Rajam was strangulated to death using a mobile phone charger wire,” added the investigating officer.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. The neighbours and her son are being questioned. “We are probing all the angles, including property dispute, as the woman owned the house,” an officer said. A case of murder has been registered at the Rajarajeswari Nagar police station and further investigations are underway.
