Two arrested for selling spurious seeds

They were allegedly operating a fake seeds racket in five states for over two years

Hyderabad: Officials from the state agriculture department and Special Operation Team (SOT) LB Nagar arrested two persons, who were allegedly operating a fake seeds racket in five states for over two years. The duo was held transporting 15 quintals of spurious cotton BT- 3 seeds worth Rs 30 lakh.

Mannem Laxmi Narayana, a habitual offender, and Namburi Srinivasa Rao were arrested in Vanasthalipuram. During interrogation, they confessed that they purchased the fake seeds from one Narayana Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and sold them at double the cost.

A car and two mobile phones were seized from their possession, said Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda police commissioner, here on Monday.
