Arrest of accused in rape case likely soon: Donakonda police

Nellore: The Donakonda police say they would soon arrest accused Madireddy Venkat of Polepalli village in Donakonda mandal of Prakasam district on the charge of rape of a woman on April 25.

Police have booked a case under SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as also a rape case against Venkat on Saturday, based on the complaint from the victim. The rape occurred when she went to relieve herself near her home.

The accused allegedly threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone. The woman maintained silence for some days. However, her husband came to know of the incident and sought a divorce.

Following this, she approached the DSP of Darsi, Narayana Swamy, and narrated the incident on Saturday.

Police said the investigation would be carried out by a DSP rank officer since the case was booked under the SC-ST Act.
