Another fire at scrap godown in Bhoiguda, no casualties

The incident comes on the back of home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali’s statement that godowns must be shifted from residential areas

Hyderabad: Nearly a month after the Bhoiguda fire mishap which claimed 12 lives, another fire was reported in the same area on Satuday night at another scrap godown. There were no casualties.

The incident comes on the back of home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali’s statement that godowns must be shifted from residential areas.

The fire was reported at 8.09 pm on Friday, and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. “It took us more than two hours to douse the flames. We suspect that an electrical issue might have triggered the fire,” an official from the fire control room said. “The property loss is estimated to be around Rs 5.5 lakh and we were able to save Rs 4 lakh worth items.”

Asked about the home minister’s orders to crackdown against such godowns, top officials from the fire department said that the GHMC must shift the establishments. “The GHMC is supposed to do the checks and take action against them. We cannot take action against them,” said the official. GHMC officials were unavailable for comment.
