Telangana: Two tax officials arrested in fake challan case

The fake challans scam of the Commercial Taxes Department was to the tune of Rs 300 crore.

Nizamabad : In a major breakthrough in the Commercial Taxes Department's fake challans case, the CID arrested deputy commissioner of Commercial Taxes Dharani Srinivasa Rao, and retired commercial tax officer Narayanadas Venkata Krishna Chary on Monday.

The duo was sent to judicial remand up to May 15. Srinivasa Rao has worked as the deputy commissioner in Nizamabad for a long time; he is presently working at the appellate wing in Hyderabad. He worked as a journalist before he joined the government service.

The fake challans scam of the Commercial Taxes Department was to the tune of Rs 300 crore. The two officers reportedly cooperated with the main accused, and caused major losses to the state exchequer.
