Bengaluru: 26-year-old man murdered in drunken brawl

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old lorry driver, who tried to pacify his friends fighting over a financial dispute, was stabbed to death in Anchepalya in Kumbalgodu police limits on Sunday night.

The deceased, Govindaraju alias Indian Raju, was a resident of Gerupalya near Kumbalgodu. The police are searching for Sharath, Murali, Arun and Hanumanthraju, the accused who are absconding. Three of the accused are said to be rowdysheeters at Kumbalgodu police station.

Govindaraju and his friends met on Sunday night and all of them consumed alcohol. Later, they went for dinner to a restaurant near Bengaluru-Mysuru Road in Anchepalaya. While returning home, Sharath and one of the accused got into a fight, while Govindaraju intervened and tried to pacify them.

“The accused, who were drunk, ganged up against Govindaraju and Sharath allegedly stabbed him with a knife and fled. Passersby rushed Govindaraju to Victoria hospital, where he succumbed after sometime. Special teams have been formed to trace the accused,” the Kumbalgodu police, who have registered a murder case, said.
