Bengaluru: Retired woman tahsildar commits suicide
Bengaluru: A retired tahsildar hanged herself at her residence near Kadambi School under the Basaveshwar Nagar police limits on Saturday night. The deceased, Nagaratnamma (63), was depressed and that could be the reason behind her suicide, the police.
Nagaratnamma, who was unmarried, retired as a tahsildar's four year ago and was staying alone in a rented house at Basaveshwar Nagar fourth block. She kept to herself and rarely spoke to her relatives and neighbours.
She never visited her relatives and was reluctant to allow them into her house, the police said. Nagaratnamma, who visited the nearby Krishna temple daily, skipped the visit on two consecutive days on Thursday and Friday, prompting her neighbours to check on her. As they reached Nagaratnamma's house on Saturday, they sensed a foul smell emanating from inside. The house owner informed the police about the incident.
The Basaveshwar Nagar police rushed to the spot, broke open the door and found Nagaratnamma hanging from the ceiling. The police suspect that Nagaratnamma committed suicide at least two days ago. The police shifted Nagaratnamma's body to Victoria Hospital for the postmortem. A case has been registered at the Basaveshwar Nagar police station.
