Father sells newborn, held in Hyderabad

The reason cited was that he was unable to take care of a second girl child.

Hyderabad: A person from Shadnagar allegedly sold his newborn girl to a childless couple from Hyderabad two days ago under the guise of adoption. The reason cited was that he was unable to take care of a second girl child.

The issue came into light after the man's wife approached police who booked a case and arrested her husband, identified as Kumar. Police also booked the person who had adopted the child illegally.

According to police, Kumar of Chatanpally village under Shadnagar police station limits married Sasli Bai and she gave birth to their second baby in December 2017.

According to police, both the families had earlier made an agreement in the presence of mediators and the couple also paid Rs 15,000 to Kumar for the child.

Though Sasli had initially agreed to give away the child, she later felt she could not live without it and began quarrelling with Kumar and finally approached the police.

Shadnagar Inspector T. Ashok Kumar said Kumar was sent in remand. Action against Arun Kumar, who had illegally adopted the child, would be initiated.
Police said the child’s custody would be decided by the Child Welfare Committee.
