Chennai: Biker hacks woman techie at bus stop

Victim hospitalised after two sickle attacks.

Chennai: A 24-year-old woman software professional, who was waiting for a bus at Surendra Nagar in southern suburb Adambakkam, was attacked with a sickle by a bike-borne unidentified man on Tuesday morning.

The woman, Jhansi, working at T. Nagar, was staying in a hostel at Medavakkam main road though she belonged to Tiruvottiyur, citing health condition, for the last two weeks.

She was admitted to a private hospital at Guindy. Police said she had registered her marriage with another software professional named Harsha recently with the approval of her family.

Lying on the bed with her heavily plastered hand, the woman was in no mood to describe the incident when DC reporter met her at hospital. “I don’t want to discuss it. Please don’t disturb me,” she said. Her husband and others also made the same plea.

According to police, Jhansi had told them she had not seen the attacker earlier.

The man stopped his bike, walked towards her, took out a sickle and attacked her aiming on her neck. She blocked it with her let hand and suffered a deep cut injury. He tried to hack her again and the sickle slashed her back. By this time, other people at the bus stop started shouting and the attacker escaped.

Onlookers immediately informed police about the incident besides alerting 108 ambulance service. The police had interacted with her parents. “The wedding had taken place with the knowledge of her parents. But it looks like her husband had not informed his family about the wedding fearing resistance. We have to probe if her marriage had anything to with the incident,” the police said.
