Tirupati: The 9th additional district court in Chittoor on Friday awarded life sentence to a son who killed his mother because she refused to give him Rs 10000.
According to the district police, the accused M. Subrahmanyam, 30, son of M. Ramakrishnappa and M. Bellamma, residents of Sivunikuppam in V. Kota mandal of Chittoor district, was addicted to several vices and was badly in need of money.
On January 1, 2018, Subrahmanyam threatened his mother and demanded Rs 10000 from a portion of money that was given to her by her brother-in-law for taking their land on lease. When she refused to give him the money, he strangulated her with a dupatta.
Based on the complaint given by the victim’s husband M. Ramakrishnappa, Kuppam circle inspector M. Rajasekhar registered a case under section 302 IPC at V. Kota police station and then arrested the accused and sent him to remand.
Meanwhile, the 9th additional district judge G. Kabarthi on Friday delivered the verdict, imposing 14 years of imprisonment on the accused and Rs 1000 fine under section 235(2) of Cr. PC.
