Family confined, attacked at Abids hotel over uncooked meat complaint

Hyderabad: Five members of a family, including two women, suffered bleeding injuries upon being confined on the premises and attacked by the staff of Grand Hotel in Abids around 12.30 am on Monday, after the family complained of uncooked mutton in a biryani they had ordered.

Following the incident, the Abids police rushed to the scene and took four of the staff members into custody. On a complaint, the police registered an FIR and booked them for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, insulting the modesty of a woman and provocation, under sections 324, 504 and 509 of the IPC.

“We have collected the footage from the CCTV cameras installed at the hotel to identify the accused,” N. Sudhakar, Abids sub-inspector, said.

The police said that eight members of a family, Suneet Singh, Sony Singh, Swati Singh, Vikas Singh, Mahesh Singh, Ashish Singh, Deepti Singh and Kailash Singh, went to have dinner at the hotel to celebrate the New Year.

They were seated in the family section on the first floor and ordered mutton biryani as a second course, after having rotis and a chicken gravy.

Upon being served the biryani, Suneet Singh complained that the mutton was not cooked properly and requested a replacement.

However, the waiter, assuming that they were drunk, re-served the same biryani instead of replacing it, following which the family decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere, the police said.

The hotel management insisted they pay for the dish and upon the family complaining to the manager, he, instead of resolving their issue, is alleged to have hurled abuses at them, downed the shutters and attacked the family members with utensils from the kitchen.

Five family members were injured, with the women, Deepti Singh and Sony Singh, needing treatment at a private hospital, the police said, adding their condition is stable.

Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh, in a statement, demanded the police take stern action against the hotel management for brutally attacking its customers and not serving proper food.
