Chennai: Two murdered on New Year's Day

Preliminary investigations revealed that Prakash was employed at an artificial limbs manufacturing firm in Villivakam.

Chennai: Two persons, including a teenager, were suspected to have been murdered in separate incidents in the City on Monday.

In one of the incidents, the body of a 17-year-old was found inside a public toilet in ICF area on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as D. Prakash, a resident of Kakkanji Nagar. Locals found the teenager lying unconscious in a pool of blood on Monday morning and alerted the police, who moved the body to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Prakash was employed at an artificial limbs manufacturing firm in Villivakam. Further investigations revealed that he was murdered by his friend, Surya (22) after the duo had a fallout over a gambling session two days ago. Police sources said the duo clashed two days ago after an argument while playing cards.

Meanwhile, on Sunday night, Surya had invited Prakash for another game of cards and they were playing in a secluded spot near the ICF bus terminus. They were in an inebriated state and had picked up a quarrel again while playing after which Surya attacked Prakash with a knife. Prakash had fled from the scene and tried to lock himself inside a public toilet. However, Surya followed him before attacking him and leaving him to die.

ICF police secured Surya later in the day. Further investigations are on. He already has an assault case against him in ICF police station, according to sources.

In another incident, police had secured the body of a man found with stab and cut injuries all over his body at a crematorium near Annai Sathya Nagar in Anna Nagar. Police said that he was wearing blue jeans and white shirt and his identity is yet to be ascertained.
