Berhampore: A car, about to be ferried on a boat, fell into Bhagirathi river leaving a couple dead in Murshidabad of West Bengal on Thursday. The deceased were Subhojit Sarkar (26) and his wife Sumana Sarkar (22).
They were inside the car after driving the vehicle on board to the boat from the ferry ghat to cross the river in Lalbagh. Their one-year-old daughter and three family members, who had travelled in the car with them till the ferry ghat, were standing on the boat.
Subhojit however forgot to switch off the car engine and mistakenly pressed the accelerator which moved the vehicle from the boat to the river.
The boat also capsized with the couple’s daughter and three family members but the four were rescued alive by the villagers quickly. Later the car was pulled out. The couple, sitting inside, was found dead. Their family members were admitted to Lalbagh Hospital.
