Chargesheet filed against accused in Banjara Hills minor rape case
HYDERABAD: The Banjara Hills police, which is investigating the rape of a four-year-old girl at a reputed private school, filed the chargesheet in the special court that deals with cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act on Thursday. Police said they had gathered substantial evidence against the accused, Rajani Kumar, the school principal Sivaraju Madhavi’s driver.
The incident was brought to light on October 18 after the girl informed her mother about the assault and revealed information about the accused. Police filed charges against Rajani Kumar for assaulting the minor girl and Madhavi for failing to monitor his activities at school. During interrogation, Rajani Kumar admitted to sexually assaulting the girl, but denied assaulting her multiple times and causing harm to other students at the school.
While Rajani Kumar was arrested and remains in judicial remand, Madhavi was granted bail a week ago by the court. The victim and her twin sister are not attending the school. Their father stated that the child is still in shock and that they have yet to recover from the incident. According to police officials, in addition to the victim's statement recorded by a magistrate, statements of her parents and other witnesses have also been recorded.
Technical evidence establishing Rajani Kumar's presence on the school campus was also provided to the court. A medical examination of the victim revealed that she had been sexually assaulted. The Forensic Science Laboratory also provided reports proving Rajani Kumar's role in the crime. According to the police, adequate evidence proving his role has been gathered, and a fool-proof case is being made against him in court. "We are in the process of taking up the case on a fast track basis, to ensure that the accused receives punishment and that the victim receives justice," they said.
