Chennai: A 26-year-old software engineer working in a private company in Chennai was found hanging in her residence at Perungalathur on Thursday night. She took the drastic step because she was denied promotion in her company.
Nithya, a native of Dharmapuri was working in a private IT firm for the past five years. She stayed at a rented house in Perungalathur along with three other colleagues. Despite her work experience, the company had kept her in the same
designation. Recently, thecompany prepared a list of employees to be promoted and Nithya was one among them.
According to sources, Nithya's parents were searching for a marriage proposal a week before and she had no qualms about it. On Wednesday all the employees listed on the promotion list were promoted except Nithya. An upset Nithya took a day off and was alone in her house from 2 pm to 10 pm.
Her colleagues after returning from work knocked on the door for a long time and got no response in return. They pushed open the window and found Nithya's body hanging from the ceiling fan.A case was registered in Peerkankaranai police station. The police are investigating. However, Nithya's colleagues have pointed out the refusal of promotion as the cause for her death.
