Hyderabad sees slump in crime cases
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metropolitan City has registered 236.1 crimes for every one lakh population in 2016 as per the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau. Out of the 19 metropolitan cities with over two million population, Hyderabad stands in the 18th place, while another South Indian metropolitan city Kochi, with 2,553.1 crimes, stands first.
Six south Indian cities have made it to the infamous list. This is the first time NCRB has published the crime data of metropolitan cities separately. Out of the total 8,08,637 cases registered under the IPC, state laws and other laws, 18,295 cases were registered in Hyderabad. But, what is heartening is that the number of cases registered in Hyderabad has come down from 21,893 in 2014 to 18,957 in 2015 to 18,295 in 2016.
With 2.3 per cent share amongst the Metros, Hyderabad ranks 13th in the list, while Delhi tops the list with 25.5 per cent share of crimes and Kanpur lasts with 1.1 per cent. Out of the 2,194 murder cases registered across the Metros, Hyderabad has 86 cases with 1.1 per cent share and out of 9,264 deaths due to rash and negligent driving, Telangana with 5.7 per cent share has registered 448 deaths. Twenty-three persons have died due to other forms of negligence in 2016. Eighteen deaths due to dowry and 138 attempt-to-murder cases were registered.
