Note ban effect: Cop, 4 others held for dacoity in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Five members of a gang, including a Central Crime Branch sleuth, were arrested for robbing Rs 25 lakh in cash from a shopkeeper in Rajajinagar after luring him into a currency exchange deal.
The arrested have been identified as B. Shesha, a police constable attached to CCB’s Organised Crime Wing, Byresha, 37, resident of KP Agrahara, local secretary Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Vijay, 27, resident of Gopalapura, a member of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Manivannan, 36, resident of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar and Pavan, resident of K.P. Agrahara.
The incident took place on November 26, around 9 am near Star Bazaar in Rajajinagar. According to the complainant, Jai Shankar, 42, who runs an electrical goods shop under the name of Shreyas Electrical Goods was lured of attractive commission for the exchange of new denomination currency with old ones. He was told that he would be given Rs 30 lakh in old denomination notes in exchange for Rs 25 lakh worth new denomination notes. He had collected Rs 25.2 lakh from six of his friends, the police stated.
According to the police, the accused kidnapped the victim and his friend from Star Bazaar and took them to Madanayakanahalli in two vehicles. In one vehicle Jai Shankar and his friend Subramanya came and in another vehicle the other accused reached the spot. There, they assaulted Jai Shankar and Subramanya and snatched Rs 21.5 lakh from him and fled.
The accused threatened Jai Shankar against approaching the police. Initially Jai Shankar was scared, but later on Tuesday he filed a complaint with the Magadi Road police station. In a swift action, police arrested five people. He added that constable Shesha played a crucial role in extorting the money. He was at Star Bazaar with other accused and went with them towards Madanayakanahalli when the accused robbed the money, the police stated.
Magadi road police said, “It is an apt case of dacoity as more than nine members were involved in the crime and we are on the look out for other accused in this case.” Police have recovered Rs 4,50,000 in cash from the accused and investigations are underway. Magadi road police have registered a case under IPC section 363 (Kidnapping) and 395 (Dacoity) and are investigating further.
