Hyderabad: Wife arrested for techie's suicide

Cops say wife did not divorce husband, wanted him to be alone.

Hyderabad: The voice recording of a phone call between a techie who committed suicide and his wife is being taken as proof that she was having an affair with one Pranay Vemula in Bengaluru. Police said that after he heard of this, her husband, Prashanth, committed suicide at their residence in Punjagutta.

The recording showed Prashanth pleading with his wife Pavani to come back to him and stop seeing Pranay. She shouted back and told him that she did not care about him any more.

The couple was married in 2014. They first stayed in Kukatpally and then shifted to Punjagutta.

“Prashanth recently came to know that Pavani was having an affair with Pranay and asked her to stop it. The families were called to meet and sort out the issues but Pavani made it clear that she wanted to be with Pranay. He slipped into depression and hanged himself at his house when he was alone on Tuesday,” Punjagutta inspector B. Mohan Kumar said.

He said Pavani told him that she would not give him a divorce and allegedly threatened to file a case if Prashanth did not leave her alone.

Pavani was arrested under IPC Section 306 (abetment to suicide) when she came to the mortuary, hence did not show up for the funeral in the city.

The police also recovered a suicide note which said ‘my wife slept with Pranay Vemula in the same house. She cheated me multiple times and asked me to die.’
