Hyderabad: A 20-year-old woman was kidnapped by a gang of three persons and raped in a moving car at Peddamberpet on Sunday night.
The victim, a salesgirl at a market in Hayathnagar, was walking home at night when the suspects followed her and forcefully dragged her into their car. The suspects moved around with the girl. Villagers stopped the car and rescued the victim. Though, the trio were roughed up by the villagers, they managed to run away. Hayathnagar police has launched a manhunt to arrest the suspects. Sources said that the suspects were acquaintances of the victim and they waited for her to be alone on the street.
The suspects have been identified as Prasad, 25, Shiva, 24, a car driver, and Mallesh, 26, a newspaper agent. According to the victim, the incident happened at around 9.40 pm when she was about to reach her home.
Culprits waited for the girl, says cop
“I was walking to my house after finishing my work at the store. The three men came in a Tata Indica car and stopped in front of me while I was alone on the street. They forcibly dragged me into the car and drove away. One of them sexually assaulted me while the vehicle was moving,” the victim told police.
A distant relative of the girl witnessed the incident and he alerted his family and villagers. Soon the villagers started a search for the vehicle and found it within a few minutes in Gandhinagar in Peddamberpet.
“They rescued the girl and roughed up the suspects. However, the three of them managed to run away from the spot leaving their car there. The villagers also damaged the vehicle,” said a local source.
The family members then alerted the police, who came to the spot and took a complaint from the victim. “We have come to know that the suspects were drunk and they waited for the woman to reach the deserted street to attack her,” said Hayathnagar Inspector, J. Narender Goud.
The trio got drunk at a place in LB Nagar and came to Peddamberpet. The Indica car (AP29UDTR0325) is registered in the name of Chikatamalla Veerender. Police said that Shiva has been using the car as a private taxi. A case of kidnap and rape has been booked by the police.
