Four hackers held for duping Hyderabadi trader

The email contained a link to re-apply. Thinking it was a genuine email.

Hyderabad: The central crime Station police on Monday arrested four hackers from Mumbai for stealing more than Rs 8 lakh from a trader’s bank account after taking his details in the name of income-tax return. The hackers were identified as Khaleel Ahmed, 23, Yogesh Sri Krishna Wankhade, 20, Sagar Raja Ram Bhila-ri, 27, and Prashanth Sahebrao Salve, 19, all from Bhandup West, Mumbai.

Police said the victim, Sadananda Chary from Himayatnagar, had received an email from no.reply06@tax-india.co.in which claimed to be from the income-tax department. It said his income tax returns had failed and asked him to apply again to get back returns of Rs 19,257. “The email contained a link to re-apply. Thinking it was a genuine email, he provided his debit card and bank account details,” said an official from CCS.
