Hyderabad: Cabbies attack student for offering lift to girl

Hyderabad: In an incident of moral policing in the city, two cab drivers were arrested by the police for attacking a college student for offering a lift to a girl belonging to another community at Abids.

According to the police, the accused persons Mohammed Sohail, 21, and Mohd Rahmath Ahmed, 25, both cabbies were arrested in the incident. The incident took place four days ago on the main road at Koti. The victim, C Mallesh (name changed), 21, is a resident of Bowenpally and a student at ITI Mallepally.

After completion of the classes, when Mallesh about to leave for home his bike, a female student from the same college approached him requesting to drop her at her house in Afzal Gunj area.

Mallesh agreed and she sat on the bike as a pillion and they started towards the Afzal Gunj. When the duo reached Koti area, two persons travelling on a bike waylaid the students and started abusing Mallesh for being with a girl from another community and also had abused the girl for the same reason.

Panicked with the incident, the girl ran away from there, while the duo started beating the male student. He was attacked with bricks and was injured, said the police.

The injured man approached the Abids police and lodged a complaint. The police had booked a case under sections 341, 504, 509, 153 A and 324 r/w 34 of IPC and the city task force sleuths are put into action to nab the duo.

The task force after collecting the footage of the CCTV cameras installed near the scene of the crime and the route in which the accused duo travelled on their bikes, and identified the accused as Mohd Sohail and Mohd Rahmath Ahmed. They were nabbed and handed over to Abids police.

Abids inspector, K. Ravi Kumar said: “The duo who attacked the student was placed under the arrest on Sunday. They were produced before a magistrate and were sent for the judicial remand on Sunday. The teams also recovered two bikes and two mobile phones from the accused.”

About a fortnight ago, a similar incident took place at Adibatla. A cab driver, K Sampath Reddy, who abused a girl student while travelling with a male friend on a bike to her hostel. The police had registered a case against the cab driver and had arrested him.
