Hyderabad: 3 arrested in attempt to kill sub-inspector

The officer jumped sideways and escaped and chased the vehicle of the suspects but could not catch them.

Hyderabad: Three members of a Pardhi gang from Maharashtra who attempted to kill a sub-inspector by trying to mow him down with their car while he was trying to catch them while they were burgling a jewellery store were arrested by Pet Basheerabad police on Monday.

Police found that the gang is involved in 11 offences of theft across the tri-commissionerates of Hyderabad.

In the early hours of September 23, Dundigal sub-inspector Shekhar Reddy along with his team was on patrol when the incident took place. The suspects who were attempting the burglary saw the police van and got into their vehicle to escape.

When Mr Reddy got down from his vehicle and tried to stop them, the driver of the van drove ahead with the intention of knocking him down. The officer jumped sideways and escaped and chased the vehicle of the suspects but could not catch them. The suspects abandoned the vehicle on the roadside and went into the Dulapally forests.

Based on a complaint from SI Shekhar, a case was registered at Pet Basheerabad police station the same day. Balanagar DCP P.V. Padmaja said that investigation revealed that the vehicle used by the accused was stolen and one of the accused persons – Raneeth Singh alias Bada Singh, 43, was earlier arrested and detained under the Preventive Detention Act for involving in a series of offences.

Acting on the clues, the teams apprehended Raneeth and his aides Ranjith, 19, and Narsingh Singh, 50, all members of a Pardhi gang of Jalna in Maharashtra, while three more accused – Karan Singh, Karthar Singh and Manohar Singh, are yet to be nabbed.

The gang was involved in three offences of theft at Pet Basheerabad, six at Alwal, one at Neredmet and one at Bowenpally, she said. “The members of the gang reach Hyderabad in a train from Jalna. They steal vehicles and use them during the burglaries. While returning to their native place, the vehicles are abandoned on the way and the thieves take public transportation,” said the DCP.
