Warangal commissioner survives crash

The police commissioner escaped unhurt, but his relative Anitha succumbed to injuries.

Hyderabad: A speeding truck rammed into the car in which Warangal police commissioner Vishwanath Ravinder, was travellingk, at the Toopran Toll Gate on the outskirts of Hyderabad early on Friday morning.

The police commissioner escaped unhurt, but his relative Anitha succumbed to injuries. The container truck crashed into the parked vehicles from the rear, killing Anitha on the spot and leaving two others injured.

SDPO of Toopran Ramgopal Rao said the accident occurred between 1.30 am and 2 am on Friday, adding that the second car was also travelling with Ravinder. There were six people in the vehicles at the time of the accident.

“The force with which the out-of-control truck rammed into the cars waiting at the toll gate was so much that it damaged the toll booth as well. The police official was travelling in the passenger seat beside the driver’s and Anitha was in the back seat,” police said.

An employee of the toll booth also suffered serious injuries, the police said. A case was booked under Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC against the truck driver.
