Hyderabad: An interstate gang of six involved in attention diversion cases was arrested by Gopalapuram police. The cops recovered around Rs 1 lakh from them on Thursday.
The arrested men are Dasu Basavaih, 48, Singamsetty Durga Prasad, 40, Velpula Deva Raj, 50, Kanda Suresh Babu, 27, Kotthuri Venkata Krishna Murthy, 24, and Singamsetty Kranthi, 23.
Devaraj was earlier arrested by Market Police in 2011. “Facing a financial crisis, the gang decided to commit thefts around Secunderabad railway station, Lakdi ka Pul, LB Nagar and the Bengaluru bus station in Karnataka two years ago,” police said.
“Initially they purchased some sarees at Pathargatti near Madina Chowrasta for '200-500 with false gold and silver borders. They then tried to sell it claiming that the gold and silver were real. If anyone shows interest, one of them will act as a goldsmith and confirm that it was real gold,” the police added.
Based on a complaint, Gopalapuram police arrested the gang on Thursday. They were sent to judicial custody.
