Ragging victim attempted suicide, says Kalburgi ragging case accused
Kochi: Shilpa Jose, the fourth accused in the controversial Kalburgi ragging case who went absconding after the incident has alleged that the victim attempted suicide at the Bangalore hostel. Shilpa Jose, 21, of Kaduthuruthy, Kottayam, made the allegation in her anticipatory bail plea filed before the Kerala High Court on Thursday. She quoted a report filed by the Special Investigation team appointed by Rajeev Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore to raise the suicide attempt allegations.
She argued that she had not committed any ragging offence under Section 116 of Karnataka Education Act. She has not misbehaved with the victim, and she has no connection with the incident of consumption of corrosive liquid by her. She was staying in a different room. Ms Jose says the incident occurred in May 2016 which is the annual examination period.
There was no whisper of an allegation against the petitioner in her complaint. There were only a few students in the hostel who were staying back to attend annual exams. Petitioner was staying back in the hostel after the regular classes only for the exam. She further contended that she came to know that the students took her to the Basaveshwara Hospital in Gulbarga, and they looked after her during this period. She was in Karnataka till May 15, and she did not lodge any complaint. The motive behind the case is yet to be found out, she said.
