No FIR on complaint against Khurshid, Bansal: CBI to court

The plea had sought registration of an FIR for allegedly abusing their official positions to ensure extension of service of a PSU official.

New Delhi: The CBI on Friday told a special court it has not registered any FIR against Congress leaders and former ministers Salman Khurshid and P K Bansal for allegedly abusing their official positions to ensure extension of service of a PSU official after his superannuation.

The agency made the submission before the court of Special CBI judge Vinod Kumar in its status report sought by the court earlier on a petition.

The plea had sought registration of an FIR against both the politicians and several other officials of the Ministry of Water Resources and A K Jhamb, then Director (Engineering) National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) Ltd.

In its report, the probe agency on Friday submitted that prima facie, the allegations against the accused persons did not warrant registration of an FIR.

The court has now fixed July 20 for considering the status report filed by the agency. The court had passed the directions on the complaint filed by a former Assistant Engineer (Civil) of NPCC.

The court had sought CBI's response saying "perusal of the entire record shows that complainant had filed a complaint dated April 29, 2015, with the same allegation to Director, CBI. Therefore, it is necessary to know from CBI"

He has claimed that "at the instance of Jhamb, the accused persons hatched a conspiracy to abuse their official positions and got Jhamb's tenure as a Director (Engg) with M/s NPCC Ltd extended beyond March 31, 2011 (Jhamb's retirement age) despite earlier rejection of the plea by Public Enterprises Selection Board."

"In view of the above facts and circumstances, it is requested to order to register proper FIR against the accused persons," the complaint said.
