Vemulawada youth drowns in sea off Florida

On May 28, Yashwanth, along with his friends, went on a picnic to an island by hiring a private boat

SIRCILLA: A youth hailing from Subhashnagar in Vemulawada town of Rajanna Sircilla district got swept away in the sea off Florida in USA on Monday. 25-year-old Kante Yashwanth had gone to Florida for his MS eight months ago. His father Kante Mallaiah had been a government teacher.

According to information reaching here, on May 28, Yashwanth, along with his friends Shubhodaya, Mysura, Charan, Srikar and Sharwari, went on a picnic to an island by hiring a private boat. When they were about to return in the evening, their boat did not start due to some technical issues.

Meanwhile, heavy tides drew their boat from three metres depth to 25 metres depth in the sea. All of them were wearing life jackets. But Yashwanth panicked and tried to reach shore by jumping into the sea and swimming. Because of strong currents, he was unable to swim against the tide and drifted.

In the interim, the boat started. His friends tried to search for Yashwanth but remained in vain. After searching for him for more than three hours, they returned ashore and informed authorities concerned. They launched search operations and traced out the body.

Yashwanth’s parents got information about his drowning on Monday night.
