Kumbakonam: Objection by parents to their marriage, two young lovers committed suicide by consuming poison here on Friday.
Suresh (23) and Saranya (22), had been in an affair for a long time, but their plans of marriage was objected by their parents.
According to police, Suresh, son of Ravindran of Kamaraj Nagar and Saranya, daughter of Swaminathan of Vannakudi near Kumbakonam were in love right from their college days.
A few days back, Saranya's father had started searching for a bridegroom his daughter. Following this, the two lovers decided to commit suicide. On Thursday, Saranya came to Suresh's house when his parents were away. Suresh who had kept a new sari and mangalasutra ready, tied the mangalasutra on Saranya, in the puja room. Later, both consumed rat poison and swooned.
When Suresh's parents reached the house, they rushed both the victims to the government hospital here. Later, both were shifted to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, but both died on Friday The police have registered a case.
