Hyderabad: Upset after parents scolded her for talking to her ex-boyfriend, a 19-year-old girl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her house in Kushaiguda on Friday.
The deceased identified as A. Divya Jyothi, 19, was a resident of Krishnanagar under Kushaiguda police station limits. She has been working at a private firm near her house. For the last two years, the girl was in love with a man, but he got married to another woman.
Jyothi knew that the man was married but continued contact with him and was regularly talking on the phone. On Thursday her parents got to know that Jyothi was talking to her ex-boyfriend and scolded her. They ordered her to stop talking to him, said the Kushaiguda police.
Feeling upset with it, the girl poured kerosene over herself when her parents were out and set herself on fire.
Alerted by the smoke, the neighbours informed the girl’s parents and the police, who rushed to the spot to find the girl dead.
The police said that a case of suspicious death was registered and the body was handed over to her parents after the autopsy at Osmania General Hospital mortuary.
