Hyderabad: KPHB police apprehended two persons in possession of ethylene ripener which they were using to ripen mangoes and seized eight bottles of ethephon and 12 packets of ethylene ripener.
The accused were identified as Syed Ahmed, 38, and Mohd Ashfaq, 20. The arrest followed a raid conducted by the KPHB police based on a tip off on Wednesday at Addagutta society.
“The accused were using ethylene ripener, which is harmful for human consumption. He was storing the chemicals with mango and was selling it to the public” said the Sub Inspector of KPHB police, D. Mahesh.
“Possessing and using such substance is illegal and violates the court orders” added the sub inspector.
The arrested individuals were booked under Sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 272 (Adulteration of food or drink intended for sale), 273 (Sale of noxious food or drink), 420 (cheating) and 188 (Disobedience) of the IPC.
