Two helmetless riders plunge to death from flyover in Mysuru

The motorists lost control of the bike and crashed into the flyover's parapet wall before toppling over, the police said.

BENGALURU: Two scooter riders, who were riding without helmets, plunged nearly 40 feet from top of Kengeri Rainbow Flyover on Mysuru Road and died on the spot on Tuesday evening. The motorists, who were riding recklessly, lost control of the bike and crashed into the flyover's parapet wall before toppling over, the police said.

The rider, Shashidhar, (24), was a mason, while his pillion rider, Manjunath (26), was a lorry driver. The residents of Gandhinagar in Kengeri Upanagar were heading home from Kengeri when Shashidar lost control of his Honda Dio scooter and crashed, the police said.

A senior police officer said that the scooter had been modified and the two riders were often seen doing dangerous stunts, including wheelies, in the area. Some vehicle riders on the busy road noticed the two lying in a pool of blood and rushed them to a nearby hospital.

An eyewitness said that the two, who were riding recklessly, crashed while trying to overtake a car. The bodies were shifted to Rajarajeshwari Nagar Hospital for the postmortem.
