Man in Bandaru Dattatreya's phone theft held in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A visitor who allegedly stole Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya's mobile phone from his home was arrested by the police on Tuesday. Police said that Rajkumar came to the minister’s house for visitor passes to the Srisailam temple and fled with the mobile phone.
Police said that G. Rajkumar, 52, a car driver from LB Nagar came to the minister’s home in Ramnagar on May 15 to get a recommendation letter for him for easy darshan at the Srisailam temple. He was one of the 20 plus visitors who came to meet the minister on that day.
Rajkumar saw the minister’s Samsung J7 mobile phone kept for charging on a cupboard in the visitor's hall. “He stole the mobile and fled from the spot. He later removed the SIM card from the phone and hid the phone at home,” Chikkadpally ACP J. Narsaiah said.
The ACP added that he did not use the phone till last Saturday as he knew that he could be tracked using the IMEI number if he uses the phone. Thinking that the police had forgotten the issue he started using the phone with a new SIM card from Saturday.
Using the IMEI tracking system he was traced to his house and was arrested. Police also seized the stolen mobile phone from him and produced him before court on Tuesday.
The minister’s mobile phone was stolen from his residence in Ramnagar, where he had kept it for charging. The CCTVs at the home could not capture the accused as they were not functioning.
