Gang escapes with 13 tonnes of cigarettes in Karnataka

BENGALURU: A gang of four men made away with a truck carrying a consignment of over 13 tonnes of cigarettes worth a whopping Rs 4.49 crore last Thursday. The gang waylaid the truck driver, kidnapped him and bundled him inside their car before escaping with the truck. They later abandoned him at Srirangpatna, the police said.

The incident occurred around 4.20 am on May 26 at the Nagarbhavi Junction on Outer Ring Road. Four men in a car waylaid the truck, which was heading towards Kerala from Devanahalli.

The gang kidnapped the truck driver, Radha Krishna, at knifepoint, tied his hands and legs and bundled him into their car. They drove all the way till Srirangapatna before pushing him out of the car. Then they fled with the truck.

The truck driver managed to free himself from the rope tied around his legs and hands and managed to board a bus to the city. In his statement to the police on Monday, he stated that after reaching the city, he went to the spot where he was kidnapped, but could not trace the truck.

He approached Chandra Layout police and lodged the complaint. Chandra Layout police who have taken up the case have formed special teams to nab the robbers.
