Eight held for cheating farmers in Telangana\'s Nalgonda

Nalgonda police arrested eight persons for cheating farmers by collecting amount on pretext of providing subsidised farm equipment

HYDERABAD: The Nalgonda police on Saturday arrested eight persons for cheating farmers by collecting amount on pretext of providing subsidised farm equipment.

The arrested were identified as Nukala Nagaraju, Singam Saidulu, Uppunutala Nagaraju, Konda Saidulu, Madan Sudhan Reddy, Boina Saidulu, Batka Saidulu and Chintakayala Santosh.

Nalgonda superintendent of police (SP) Rema Rajeswari said one Basavoju Nagabrahmachari resident of Indloor village, Thipparthy mandal and lodged a complaint against Singam Saidulu alleging that he along with eight farmers from the same village cheated him to the tune of Rs 8.80 lakh by making him believe that he would get a subsidy on farm implements.

"Nagaraju hired some agents to collect money from gullible farmers. For the last two years, Nagaraju along with his followers cheated 498 farmers belonging to 19 mandals on the name of subsidies on farm equipment," the SP said.
