Hyderabad: JEE aspirant kills himself
Hyderabad: Upset with his JEE Mains rank, a student shot himself to death using his father’s licensed double-barrel shotgun at his home in Neredmet early on Tuesday, a few hours after the results were released.
The victim, Sahil, 18, was the youngest of the three sons of Mehardin and Sarojwala. The family had moved from Haryana six years ago and was staying at Balajinagar in RK Puram.
Mehardin, a retired Army jawan, works as a security guard with a cash management agency at Secunderabad. Sahil’s eldest brother Asif works with a private company and Sameer is studying engineering in Odisha.
His family said that Sahil was upset but calm after the results were out on Monday. At about 1.30 am on Tuesday, Sahil picked his father’s gun and shot himself in the forehead and died on the spot. Woken up by the loud sound, his parents rushed out to see Sahil lying in a pool of blood and alerted Asif, who was returning home from work, and the police.
It is learned that Sahil had deleted all the data from his mobile phone before taking the extreme step.
Mr Mehardin’s weapon licence was renewed in 2018 and was valid till 2021, police said. The weapon had not been deposited with the police as is required during elections because security guards are exempt from the rule.
A case of suspicious death was registered based on his father’s complaint.
