Bengaluru: Man molests minor girl, held

Bengaluru: A painter was arrested for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl for over a month in S.J. Park police station limits.

The accused has been identified as Anwar, who was staying near victim’s house. He was arrested on Monday after a complaint was filed.

The victim was staying with her mother, a daily wage worker, and used to do household work such as sweeping the floor and cleaning utensils at Anwar’s house. Anwar used take the opportunity to molest her.

Police said on Sunday night, the girl started complaining of pain in the abdomen region and was taken to the hospital. The doctors confirmed that she has been molested.

When the victim was questioned by her mother, she narrated her ordeal and told her that Anwar had frightened her to silence.

The victim’s mother on Monday lodged a complaint at S.J. Park police station, who registered a case under the Pocso Act.

The incident also angered local residents, who staged a protest in front of the police station. They even blocked vehicles, which resulted in a traffic jam for an hour on J.C. Road.

The police had to resort to a minor cane charge to disperse the crowd. They also registered a case for unlawful gathering.

A senior police officer said that Anwar is being questioned to gather more information about the incident.
