Bengaluru: Three cabbies held for assaulting 2 policemen

The police seized the car belonging to the accused.

Bengaluru: Three drunk drivers working for cab aggregator Ola were arrested for assaulting two police constables on duty, while another accused managed to escape after the incident at Uttarahalli late on Saturday evening.

The accused, identified as Bharath, Sunil, Praveen, and Puneeth, were under the influence of alcohol. They were sitting on the bonnet of the car belonging to one of the accused and were misbehaving with passersby.

Head Constable Siddachari R. and Constable Mohan Kumar, both attached to Rajarajeshwari police station, who were on night patrolling duty in their Hoysala vehicle, found the accused misbehaving with passersby and creating a ruckus on the road.

Siddachari questioned them about their behaviour, but they assaulted him and tore his uniform. Kumar, who went to Siddachari’s rescue, was also assaulted. Later, they fled the scene with the ignition key of the police vehicle.

Siddachari and Kumar chased the accused and managed to catch Bharath, Sunil and Praveen with the help of the public. A manhunt has been launched to nab another accused Puneeth, who managed to escape.

The police seized the car belonging to the accused. Later, they had to get a duplicate key of the Hoysala vehicle to take the accused to the police station for further investigation.

The accused have been booked under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty). They were remanded to judicial custody.
