Indian Union Muslim League workers nabbed for attacking cops
Kozhikode: Ten IUML workers were arrested on Sunday for attacking policemen in Poomukham, near Velam in rural Kozhikode on Saturday, ahead of a vehicle rally planned by the SDPI. The arrested were charged with attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, rioting with deadly weapon, preventing public servants from duties etc. The arrested ones are: Ajmal K. (23), Theekkuni, Munsir T. (23), Theekkuni, Siraj A.K. (37), Poomukham, Muhammed Fasal PP (20), Theekkuni, Muneef C.K. (20), Theekkuni, Shiraf P. (25), Theekkuni, Fasil V (210, Theekkuni, Ismail K.K. (40), Poomukham, Naseer A (34), Velam and Muhammed P. (20), Puthalath. Kuttiady CI T. Sajeevan is investigating the case.
The cops were attacked, when they tried to disperse the IUML workers, following information that the situation would turn worse once the rally pass through Poomukham. The vehicle rally was started in Velam. However, police said some of them were dragged and uniforms were tore off. Policeman from Special Branch, Suresh and Vipin and Ranjith from KAP were injured. The official vehicle of Perambra CI Sunil Kumar and vehicles from KAP were destroyed.
