Hyderabad: Stalker rapes, sets ablaze girl

Angered by this, Venkatesh hatched a plan to sexually assault her and kill her

Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl who was living alone was raped by a man who was stalking her and set ablaze late on Friday night. The accused, G. Venkatesh, 21, was taken into custody by the Suryapet district police. The girl has survived the ordeal and is being treated in a hospital.

According to police Venkatesh, 21 used to harass the victim by professing love. The girl was against this and approached the village elders who warned Venkatesh to stay away from her.

Angered by this, Venkatesh hatched a plan to sexually assault her and kill her.

Late on Friday night, he went to the victim's house, took her to a wooded area raped her. He doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze.

The victim's parents had migrated to the city in search of livelihood. The victim was pursuing a paramedical course in Mahbubabad district.

The girl, who received 50 per cent burns, is now undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Warangal and her condition is said to be stable.

Based in the complaint from minor victim's father, a case on charges of attempt to murder, rape, and under relevant sections of POCSO Act has been registered. The accused was taken into custody by Suryapet district police.
