Chennai: Auto driver gets 10-year RI

Accused raped his 15-year-old niece 3 years ago.

Chennai: The special court for cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso Act), 2012, has sentenced a 46-year-old auto driver to undergo RI for 10 years on the charge of raping his 15-year-old niece three years ago. The minor victim girl gave birth to a male child in June 2014.

The special judge R. Kalaimathi has directed the state government to provide a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim. According to the special additional public prosecutor Gowri Ashokan, the old accused was working as an auto driver in MKB Nagar. His sister’s daughter was doing 10th standard in a school at Purasawalkam. As his sister was working in a textile showroom, the girl was staying in her aunt’s residence at MKB Nagar.

The auto driver, who had three wives, was staying opposite the girl’s house. He used to drop the girl at the school by his auto rickshaw.

When his wife was away, he took the girl to his residence and had intercourse with her. Six months later, she became pregnant. Shocked over this, her mother lodged a complaint before the MKB Nagar police station. The cops registered a case against him under section 6 of the Pocso Act, 342 and section 506 (2) of IPC. On completion of the trial, the special judge, R. Kalaimathi has sentenced him to undergo 10-year of RI and slapped a fine of '5,000 on him.
