Two women held for manhandling constables
Palghar: Two sisters were arrested for allegedly assaulting six police personnel in Vasai area here, police said on Tuesday.
Pradnya and Gargi Singh, both sisters and aged around 30, were held last evening after they allegedly abused and manhandled six police constables attached to Arnala Police Station in Vasai, Palghar Superintendent of Police (Acting), Srikrishna Kokate said.
The incident took place on February 27 when Pradnya, accompanied by her sister came to Arnala Police Station to file a complaint against an unidentified person.
She picked up a quarrel on why her statement was recorded in Marathi and not in Hindi after which she started hurling abuses at the constables present there, the officer said.
A senior officer tried to pacify the complainant but she and her sister went on to manhandle the five women constables and a male constable, he said.
A case was lodged against the duo under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC.
The six constables were Rupali Bhoir, Jyanti Rajguru, Manisha Avti, Priyanka Patil, Yogtia Bhoir and Sachin Tambve.
