Vijayawada: Criticising the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), CPM leader Ch Babu Rao alleged neglect in maintaining garbage collection vehicles.
He claimed VMC workers are forced to use personal funds for repairs.
During a visit to the Vijayawada Central constituency on Saturday, Rao observed damaged tricycles used for household waste collection. He demanded immediate repairs to all garbage collection vehicles.
"The civic body is neglecting sanitation," Rao stated, pointing to Vijayawada's past Swachh Bharat awards. He urged the VMC to allocate funds for both repairs and acquiring new vehicles to improve sanitation across the city.
