CBI declines custody extension after crime-scene reconstruction in dowry death probe

Bhopal: A local court here on Tuesday remanded Twisha Sharma’s mom-in-law, Giribala Singh and her husband, Samarth, to judicial custody for 14 days.
Giribala Singh, a retired judge, and Samarth, a practicing lawyer, were on Tuesday produced in the court of Justice Shobhna Balave here after completion of their CBI-custody.
The court remanded the mother and son, both of them are accused of harassing Twisha for dowry, to judicial custody for 14 days till June 16, according to Twisha’s family lawyer, Ankur Pandey.
The CBI did not press for extension of the custody of the two accused, leading the court to remand them to judicial custody.
Twisha, 33 years old model and actor, married to Samarth in December 2025.
She allegedly died by suicide at her marital home here on May 12 in mysterious circumstances.
Her family members accused her in-laws of abusing her mentally and physically for dowry, leading to her death.
The case was handed over to the CBI to probe after Twisha’s family members doubted the fairness of the probe by the police into the case.
The CBI recreated the crime scene in Twisha’s in-laws’ house here on Monday by using a dummy weighing 80 kg, matching her body weight.
The final moments of Twisha were reconstructed at the spot where she allegedly hanged her in her in-laws’ house.
Her mother-in-law and husband were made part of the recreated crime scene by the forensic team of the CBI to verify if the ground reality matched the version of the two accused, sources said.
