Court Orders Ibrahim Not Use JDS Rival Faction of JDS

Bengaluru: State president of Janata Dal Secular (JDS) and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday stated that the Principal City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bengaluru has ordered C.M. Ibrahim led a rival faction of JDS not to use the letter head of JDS or the party symbol and also not to conduct press conferences on behalf of the party. Further, Ibrahim has been barred from making office-bearers appointments.

When contacted, C.M. Ibrahim told Deccan Chronicle that he will take-up the matter with the High Court and also in the Supreme Court.

To a query, Ibrahim said, he has approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) claiming ownership of JDS and the matter would be coming up for hearing soon.

The order from the Principal City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bengaluru comes after trouble started for Janata Dal Secular (JDS) in September last year when Kumaraswamy joined Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Opposing the move, the then State president of JDS C.M. Ibrahim claimed that he is the State president of JDS since Kumaraswamy forged alliance with BJP does not hold merit since he has not formally okayed the JDS-BJP alliance to contest 2024 Lok Sabha polls in his capacity as the State JDS president.

Ibrahim claimed he was kept in the dark by Kumaraswamy over the alliance with BJP. Ibrahim declared that his faction supported the Congress party’s India National Development Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) bloc at the national level.

Acting against Ibrahim, national president of JDS and former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda removed him from the post of JDS State unit president and in a counter attack, Ibrahim claiming to be the State president of JDS conducted a national executive meeting of JDS in Kerala besides expelling H.D. Devegowda as the national president. In place of Devegowda, JDS leader C.K. Naanu was appointed the new JDS national president.

Both the factions of JDS are engaged in a legal fight over ownership of the party.
