Court Fresh Date To TMC MP For Voice Sample Recording

The judge pointed out he would not entertain Mr Banerjee's prayer as another judge has been hearing the same case and has already granted him an interim protection from arrest.

Kolkata: The Bidhannagar Court on Wednesday ordered a fresh date for the recording of voice sample of Diamond Harbour Trinamul Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee on July 8 morning in the case of his provocative speech during the Assembly Election campaign.

Mr Banerjee was supposed to appear before a judge at the district court in North 24 Parganas to lend his voice for recording by forensic experts on Tuesday following a plea granted to the criminal investigation department (CID) of the state police which has been probing the case.

The young TMC leader however skipped his appearance and moved the Calcutta High Court against the lower court's order, questioning the requirement of the process since he argued that he already acknowledged his voice. But he did not get any relief.

The judge pointed out he would not entertain Mr Banerjee's prayer as another judge has been hearing the same case and has already granted him an interim protection from arrest. Meanwhile, a motorcyclist threw bricks at Mr Banerjee's previous residence on Tuesday.

CCTV footage which captured the scene showed that the unidentified youth stopped in front of the address, Santiniketan apartment on Harish Mukherjee Road in Kalighat area while passing by and threw bricks which smashed a window glass.
