Kolkata: A cop suffered bullet injuries during an altercation with his female friend while returning from shopping. The incident took place in Howrah on Wednesday night.
The injured cop is Jayanta Pal, inspector in charge of Chanditala police station in Hooghly. He has been admitted to a private hospital with bullet injuries on his left hand. The police later detained Mr Pal's friend Tina Dam, who was with him, for questioning.
Tina is from Sankrail in Howrah. She and the cop became friends in the last couple of months. On Wednesday evening, Mr Pal took Tina for shopping which cost him around ₹30,000, preliminary investigation revealed.At around 11.30 pm the duo was returning in a rented car bearing a police sticker. On the way they had a tiff. Mr Pal stopped the car on Netaji Subhash Road near Ghoshpara petrol pump.
He was suddenly found rushing out of the car with bullet injuries on his left elbow, according to sources. Cops of the Shibpur and Bantra police stations rushed to the spot and rescued Mr Pal.
Who had opened fire inside the car is not clear though the cops suspect that it was Mr Pal who pulled the trigger of his service revolver. Blood stains were found on the clothes of his friend also.
