Congress Tigers Will Send Assam CM to Jail: Rahul Gandhi

The CM in Assam doesn’t think himself to be a CM, but a King of Assam, for 24 hours in a day, is busy giving money, land to either Ambani, or Adani.

Guwahati: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was on a day-long visit to Assam to address Congress workers and attend state’s political affairs committee meeting on Wednesday accused Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of behaving like a monarch rather than an elected head of state.

Asserting that the grand old Congress party's "babbar sher" will send Assam chief minister to jail Mr Gandhi while addressing a meeting of Congress booth level workers at Chaygaon said, “The CM here doesn’t think himself to be a CM, but a King of Assam, and the King of Assam, for 24 hours in a day, is busy giving your money, land to either Ambani, or Adani.”
Mr Gandhi further said that Assam CM and his family will be held accountable for corruption by the people of the state. “Congress won’t put him in jail, people will,” said Mr Gandhi.
Targeting the BJP-led state government, Mr Gandhi further said, “If you hear him on TV, you would make out the fear in his voice. He talks big, shouts, but you see his face on TV, you would see fear in his voice, because he knows that one day, Congress’ tigers will send him in jail. He knows that what corruption he did, he will have to answer to the people of Assam… In some time, he will go to jail, nobody can save him…Neither PM Modi nor Amit Shah will be able to save him.”
Assam chief minister also responded to Mr Gandhi’s charges soon after while claiming that the Congress leader had reiterated in a closed-door meeting with the state Congress Political Affairs Committee that the CM would “definitely be sent to jail.”
Mr Sarma in his social media post on X wrote, “Take it in writing, Himanta Biswa Sarma will definitely be sent to jail — these were the exact words spoken by the Leader of the Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi, during his closed-door meeting with the Congress Political Affairs Committee in Assam.”
Obviously implying that he had the access to all what went inside the closed door meeting of Assam Congress, Mr Sarma further said, “He came all the way to Assam just to say this, conveniently forgetting that he himself is out on bail in multiple criminal cases registered across the country. My best wishes to you, Rahul ji. Enjoy the hospitality of Assam for the rest of the day.”
Mr Gandhi while addressing Congress workers also sought to boost morale ahead the assembly elections in 2026. “You are all tigers and tigresses of Congress party, you don’t fear anyone, you are our backbone, Congress’ ideology is in your DNA,” he said. “There is a fight of ideology going on in the country, on one hand, there is an ideology to divide, on the other hand, Congress had the ideology to unite,” said Mr Gandhi amid thundering cheer of the party workers.
“The people of Assam know the truth. There will be elections soon, and the Congress will sweep those elections. We have created a new team here. I want to congratulate Gaurav Gogoi and the team; they have started the work, and the people of Assam will soon see the results,” he said.
Mr Gandhi also reiterated the allegation of electoral fraud in Maharashtra while fearing that it may be replicated in Bihar and Assam. "BJP won Maharashtra assembly polls by cheating through voter list revision, trying the same tactics in Bihar," said Mr Gandhi while alerting that they may try to do the same fraud in Assam’s voters list.
Mr Gandhi and Mr Kharge also met representatives from tribal communities and people who have reportedly faced persecution and threats of displacement. These interactions took place at the same hotel near the airport where their first round of discussions was held.
Meanwhile Congress spokesperson said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were on a day-long tour of Assam on Wednesday to interact with the state unit’s leadership and draw up a strategy for the road ahead.
