Congress Recalls Modi’s Grandstanding After 26/11 Attack
The senior Congress leader noted that the Congress and other Opposition parties have also demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the terror attack and showcase national unity.

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday recalled Narendra Modi's "grandstanding" during his 2008 media address as Gujarat Chief Minister, just two days after the Mumbai attacks began, and condemned the BJP's "awful" advertisement targeting the then-UPA government. However, the party asserted, "Let us now be cohesive at this most sensitive time."
On Tuesday, the BJP had highlighted the Congress post to accuse the Opposition party of becoming “Lashkar-e-Pakistan-Congress” and launching a “veiled incitement” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reiterating its position on Wednesday, the Congress recalled what it termed Modi's "grandstanding" during his 2008 media appearance and criticised the BJP’s controversial advertisement targeting the UPA government at the time.
The Congress emphasised unity, stating: “Let us now be cohesive at this most sensitive time.”
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, said this is a moment to show collective resolve to teach Pakistan a lesson it will never forget.
"On the night of April 22 itself, the Indian National Congress had called for an all-party meeting. The meeting was held two days later but was not attended by the Prime Minister. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) resolution of April 24 is absolutely clear," he posted on X.
The senior Congress leader noted that the Congress and other Opposition parties have also demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the terror attack and showcase national unity.
"But what did the BJP do on November 28, 2008 — just two days after the deadly terror attacks began in Mumbai? In a brazen and unprecedented move, the then Gujarat Chief Minister went to Mumbai and, in an act of grandstanding, addressed the media," Ramesh pointed out.
He added that the BJP also released an "awful" newspaper advertisement the same day.
"This is history. Let us now be cohesive at this most sensitive time. The country is waiting," Ramesh urged.
Ramesh also shared a copy of the 2008 BJP advertisement, which read:
"Brutal terror strikes at will. Weak government — unwilling and incapable."
