2.2 MTPA integrated facility expected to generate over 2,000 jobs; company ties up with Japan’s JFE Steel

Jajpur: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday inaugurated Jindal Ferrous Limited’s integrated steel manufacturing facility in Jajpur, built with an investment of over Rs 5,000 crore.

The facility, with a steelmaking capacity of 2.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), comprises a blast furnace, sinter plant, steel melting shop and associated infrastructure. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for more than 2,000 people, the company said.

The inauguration was attended by state Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, and Jajpur MP Rabindra Narayan Behera.

“Odisha has immense potential to emerge as a leading destination for industrial growth and manufacturing in India,” Majhi said, adding that the state government was committed to attracting investments and creating employment opportunities for local youth.

Abhyuday Jindal, promoter of Jindal Ferrous, said Odisha’s natural resources, infrastructure and policy support made it a suitable location for the company’s first integrated steelmaking complex.

The commissioning adds to Odisha’s steel manufacturing capacity amid growing demand from infrastructure and industrial sectors.

The plant incorporates advanced automation and process optimisation systems, including Level-2 blast furnace automation, high top-pressure operations and dry gas cleaning technology. Its integrated configuration is designed to improve resource efficiency through the recycling of metallurgical waste and utilisation of process gases.
