Civil Supplies Corporation Faces Unprecedented Debt: Bhatti

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the Civil Supplies Corporation (CSC) had never faced so much debt even in the undivided state, despite providing ration for 2.82 crore card holders. The BRS government had left the corporation to fend for itself by denying it funds, he said.

At a press meet held after a review of welfare schemes and the financial condition of the CSC, which minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy also attended, Bhatti said, “The corporation has incurred a debt of Rs 58,860 crore. The state government had in 2014-15 owed Rs 387 crore while it owed Rs 14,354 crore in 2024. While earlier governments paid the department in time, the BRS forced it to go for loans.”

The CSC has been forced to borrow more to repay its loans, he said. “We have directed the department to provide rice to consumers and fine rice to students by purchasing in the market along with buying paddy from farmers without any trouble,” Bhatti said.
